$104k Winter Carnival Prize Money

A quieter day last Saturday for Roma-based trainers as most headed to Cunnamulla with not a lot of success. Ben Waldron had a 2nd with Real Hussey and a 3rd with Was Met in the maiden while Craig Smith had to settle for a 2nd on the program with Russmuss.

This Saturday sees the start of the Roma Turf Club winter racing carnival with the $104,000 prize money day of racing shared with the Roma Echnidas rugby union fixture matches. The Roma Turf Club have received excellent nominations for the 6 race program with the feature being the 2 year old Rugby Slipper over 1000 metres with $34,000 in prizemoney including QTIS bonuses. The meeting will have TAB and Sky Channel coverage with the early start at 11.07 am to allow for the Fashions of the Field and Rugby games after the local racing.

This Saturday as well interest is high in the Battle of the Bush final in Brisbane with the Downs Country region being well represented. Taroom based trainer Rodney Hay has Galapagos in the race while Cunnamulla heat winner Expellable races for the Garry Bignell team at Cunnamulla, Wayne Baker from Roma has Beware in the field whilst last years Country Stampede winner VJ Day gives St George trainer Pat Webster a strong hand in the race. Craig Smith is playing waiting game with his horse Piracy which is the first emergency.

A good day of racing is assured for the Roma Turf Club this Saturday.
