2022 distributes $750,000 record prizemoney

A relaxing fun day with a good crowd and Santa Claus heralding in a festive atmosphere was the order of the day for the 2022 Macca’s Roma Turf Club Christmas meeting.

Racing wise a good day of racing with local trainers capping the day with 4 of the  5 winners. The Scott Rodgers stable had a winning double when Expect a Hero ridden by cup winning jockey Sophie Wilcock was successful while the second of the double was with Pharaohsphere who gave apprentice Landan Sykes the first leg of his winning double.

Ben Waldron and Brooke Richardson combined with Raspberry Bubbles to win the Barry Richardson Memorial Maiden while Wayne Baker and Amy Graham kept up their good recent strike rate with Menindee scoring another impressive win in the Open Handicap. Impressive Roma Cup day winner Waitakere showed his distinct liking for Bassett Park in giving Landan Sykes the second leg of his double in the final event for the 2022 racing year.

The Roma Turf Club can be happy in the way the 2022 year panned out with the club distributing a record $720,000 in prizemoney to industry participants. The Sydeva Haulage Bendemere Cup day will herald in the 2023 racing year on Saturday 18th February as the Clubs honours recently deceased racing stalwarts Rex and Cath Smith.

Great to see racing icons former bookmaker Bob Ashney and jockey/trainer Ken Waller as part of the crowd at Bassett Park on Saturday.
