Centaur takes Cup at Longreach

While last weekend results were not as outstanding for local trainers as the previous week, there was still some good success as trainers travelled many kilometres to race their horses.

Local trainer Ben Waldron teamed with local jockey Sophie Wilcock to score another TAB win with Real Hussey while trainer Wayne Baker made it a winning Roma double when Bean a Bad Girl won the Maiden Handicap at Longreach.

The Longreach Country Cups qualifier was won by Centaur who scored an impressive win for western based jockey Tim Brummell. Menindee (Wayne Baker) and Rogue Star (Ben Waldron) also ran placings on the day. The Craig Smith stable took the long route avoiding flooded roads in going to Gladstone however did not feature in the winners circle with Art by Concorde finishing third and Last Armageddon fourth in their respective races.

The Dawson Jockey Club at Taroom transferred their meeting to Sunday and local trainer Cheryl Rogers gained prizemoney with all 4 runners the stable started on the program, they were Big Brother second, Solskjaer third and Avision and Jungleland both finishing fourth. In a day where the whole 5 race program of winners were ridden by female riders, Leanne McCoy with three including the Cup on Cappy Kino and Tasha Chambers rode a winning double.

This Saturday the travel continues for the Roma connections with horses nominated for Tara, Eidsvold and Jundah.

We continue to countdown to Roma Cup on the 19th November.
