Champkin takes home 4 winners

Despite the cool wintery conditions at Bassett Park on Saturday, racegoers attending the Families and Fillies race day were treated to a fantastic 9 race day of racing, and the youngsters in crowd were treated to plenty of fun during the afternoon with their games with their friends.

Once again winners were well scattered for trainers with 9 different trainers winning a race each on the $100,000 9-race card. It was great to see jockey Sariah Champkin who suffered a very nasty fall in the saddling enclosure prior to the 2021 Roma Cup come up with the riding honours booting home 4 winners while Shane McGovern rode a winning double.

Last start Bassett Park winners Nick the Skip and Jochberg both scored impressive wins in the Open Company features. Jochberg looked Roma Cup material in his 12 and half length win while the Craig Smith stable found a pretty impressive winner in Nevrom Lion who went within an ace of Tisani Tomso’s track record in breaking his maiden status over 1000 metres.

The Roma Turf Club will be part of the Roma Rugby League extravaganza on the weekend of the 23rd and 24th July with the Cities RLFC race day being part of a massive football weekend incorporating the Junior Street Parade on the Saturday morning and a 5 game day of Rugby League on the Sunday at Arthur Beetson Oval at Cities Football Grounds.

The race meeting will feature a 5-race $56,000 day of racing but could again have more races if field sizes and nominations permit.
