Once again the weather proved a hindrance to regional racing with meetings at Morven, Barcaldine and Warwick all being called off due to the weather and track conditions. However this should prove a boost for the Roma Turf Club Fillies and Families race day this Saturday in conjunction with the Roma State College.
With 105 horses nominated for the 6 races, it would appear the club will be providing at least a 7-race program and possibly 8 races. Trainers are reminded to accept with their horses as Racing Queensland has already given the go-ahead to divide races with excess acceptors. Acceptances close at 9 am Thursday. With the extra races for the day, prizemoney will be up around the $100,000 dollar mark with QTIS bonuses.
This week’s wrap has a somber tone to it with the serious injuries sustained in race falls at New South Wales meetings on Sunday and Monday. Brisbane-based apprentice Leah Kilner is in the prayers of the industry following the fall that she was involved in at Grafton. It again highlights the dangers faced by jockeys in their trade.
The Roma Turf Club will continue the winter carnival action on the 24th July with Cities Rugby League race day.
