Injune a success for Roma Trainers

Good to see all the scheduled meetings go ahead and the Battle of the Bush heats finalised. It is now all systems go for the Roma Turf Club Rugby Races and Winter Racing Carnival. Rugby Race Day not far away on the 25th June.

Roma trainer Wayne Baker headlined the Injune meeting with a winning double including the Injune Cup with Shijin ridden by Brooke Richardson and Stays on Tour ridden by Paul Randall. Roma-based trainer Joe Halpin, a relative newcomer to the ranks had what I believe is his first race winner when Package was successful in the ratings 0 – 55 race at Injune ridden by jockey Todd Banks, there were some very excited connections to witness the win.

Good to see Taroom-based trainer Rodney Hay have success in qualifying Galapagos for the Battle of the Bush final. It was a frustrating weekend for other Roma trainers with a series of placing at Injune and Cunnamulla. The Craig Smith stable had to be content with a second with Hezhome in the Injune Cup and Piracy running second to local galloper Expellable in the Cunnamulla Battle of the Bush heat.

Charleville trainer Shane Iverson had a winning double at Cunnamulla with Mishani Operator winning the Maiden Handicap and Mori’s Press winning the class 4 by 7 lengths, speaking of big winning margins Emerald trained Our Stormy Girl scored a massive 15.5 length win in the Benchmark 65 as part of winning double for apprentice jockey Tahlia Fenlon.

Kedleston will head back to Brisbane for trainer Todd Austin after winning the Barcaldine heat of the Battle of the Bush on Saturday.

This weekend Cunnamulla club will host one the meetings that was scheduled for Charleville, then to Bassett Park for the Rugby Races and following that Morven will host racing on the 2nd July.
