With the Roma Turf Club winter racing carnival in sight, local and regional trainers recorded some excellent results at the weekend.
St George based trainer Pat Webster, qualified stable star VJ Day (last years Country Stampede winner) for this years Battle of the Bush final by winning the heat in Chinchilla on Saturday. Webster also had a double at Nanango with Leica Special and Coat of Arms.
Roma trainer Scott Rodgers also tasted success at Nanango with Moving Day saluting, while the Craig Smith found the winning post first at Tambo with Chesters Angel.
To continue the local winning run trainer Rebecca Kirwan was in the winners circle with Curic at Chinchilla.
Unfortunately for the industry the Battle of the Bush meeting at Quilpie had to be abandoned, but this has turned out to be a blessing for the Injune Club as at the Cup meeting on the 11th June, the club will host a Battle of the Bush heat.
This Saturday the spotlight heads to Cunnamulla for the first of the 2022 Downs Country Battle of the Bush heats.
The Roma Turf Club is looking forward to a fantastic day of racing on Rugby Race Day, June 25th with a 6 race $72,000 TAB race day to herald in the Winter racing carnival.
Until next time – happy racing.
