Local trainers tasted success at meetings at Mitchell and Blackall on Saturday, this included the first of the Country Cups qualifiers when the Ben Waldron stable won the Blackall Cup leg with Palate ridden by Brooke Richardson, the stable also had a second on the program with Real Hussey. It was great to see the bush champion Fabs Cowboy resume from a spell and win the Flying on the Blackall program.
The Magpies nest was a hive of activity when a large crowd attended the Booringa Cup day of racing. The Cup saw success for Toowoomba trainer Matt Kropp as part of a winning double when Coyne’s Road ridden by John Rudd, prior to that Anacheeva Lad gave owner Graham Wippell (also owns Palate) a two venue double on that when successful for jockey Sarah Robbins. Doubles seemed to be the order of the day as Robbins had an earlier winner for Charleviile trainer Lisa McGee. The combination of trainer Wayne Baker and jockey Amy Graham continued on last weeks treble with a double with Bonnie Ev and Menindee. Menindee made it 2 wins in 6 days. Ben Waldron also had a 2 venue double when newcomer Queen of the South scored at Mitchell ridden by Todd Banks.
