Great to see the Cunnamulla club be able to race their Country Cups and Stampede meeting on Saturday after a number of recent meeting falling foul of the weather.
The highlights of the day at Cunnamulla were the doubles to Charleville trainer Shane Iverson and Roma based jockey Sophie Wilcock as well as Roma trainer Wayne Baker and stable jockey Amy Graham. The Baker stable qualified Menindee for the rich Country Stampede as the galloper made it 3 wins from his last 3 starts with the other leg of double being Bonnie Ev who added to her Mitchell victory in the Benchmark 55 over 1400 metres. The Iverson stable qualified Nick the Skip for the Country Cups final in December while the other leg of the Sophie Wilcock winning double was the QTIS Maiden winner Karara Lad. To cap off a good day for Roma stables Joey Jaws was successful for the Colin Storch stable when ridden by Dennis Baker in the 1000 metres benchmark 55.
A frustrating couple of days for Roma trainer Craig Smith saw Tell the World finish in the placings at Rockhampton on Friday and Hezhome finish a close second in the Chinchilla Country Cups qualifier behind Kiki Coco. A similar tale for former St, George trainer Pat Webster as Coat of Arms finished 2nd in the Country Stampede qualifier and Safin and Minted finished 3rd and 4th in the Country Cups qualifier. Webster already has VJ Day qualified for the Country Stampede final.
This weekend the racing spotlight heads to Blackall and a TAB day at Emerald, while we are only a week away from the running of the 2022 Royal on 99 Roma Cup.
Good to see Cheryl Rogers in the winners circle on Melbourne Cup at Barcaldine when riding King Coni to victory for Augathella trainer Raymond Frazer.
