Roma ready for football, fashions and furlongs at Bassett Park

Sydney may have it’s Golden Slipper…Cinderella may have her glass slipper…and Dorothy may have her ruby slippers…but only Roma has the Rugby Slipper!

The Roma Turf Club’s feast of Football, Fashions and Furlongs hits Bassett Park this Saturday at the Roma Rugby Race Day, featuring a bumper 6 race TAB programme with $110,000 in total prizemoney.

Saturday’s programme features the 2023 Rugby Slipper – a 1000 metre handicap for 2-year-olds presented by Ben and Amanda McDougall’s Roma Gas Supplies. This rich 2YO event carries $15,000 in prizemoney, with QTIS bonuses of $18,000 for the Fillies and $12,000 for the Colts and Geldings. The 6 race card also includes a 1000m Maiden Plate of $17,000; an Open Handicap of 1200m, a Benchmark 60 Handicap of 1640m, a Rating 0-60 Handicap of 1000m, and a 1200m Benchmark 45 Handicap – all of $15,000.

The Roma Turf Club welcomes back as sponsors many boarding schools and colleges with long associations to the district, including The Southport School, Nudgee College, and “Churchie”, the Anglican Church Grammar School, along with Roma Veterinary Clinic and Upstream Production Solutions.

Following the conclusion of the racing action, the ever-popular Fashions Of The Field is back proudly presented by St Hilda’s College at Southport, and this year features two categories of Classic Lady and Contemporary Lady, each carrying a $1000 cash prize.

Full TAB and Sky Channel coverage will showcase the meeting, and the day’s early start will allow patrons to take in all the racing action and Fashions On The Field, plus 3 great rugby matches, and entertainment into the evening with crowd favourites at last year’s Rugby Race Day After Party, the Horn Dogs back “flaunting a horn section of brass with a repertoire of class” as the boys say, so have your dancing boots and fancy footwork ready to party the night away!

Saturday’s meeting is the first day of the Roma Turf Club’s 2023 Winter Carnival, with 3 bumper race days and over $240,000 in prizemoney up for grabs. Roma has long been the heartland of the “Three R’s” in Racing, Rugby League, and Rugby Union, and once again the Roma Turf Club is combining with the Roma Echidnas and Cities RLFC to present a feast of Football, Fashions and Furlongs!    Cities RLFC race day is back for 2023 on Saturday July 8th with a 5 race programme racing for $67,500 in prizemoney, and the Club’s Winter Carnival wraps up on Saturday July 22nd with the Fillies And Families Race Day in conjunction with the Roma State College for a 5 race programme, also carrying $67,500 in prizemoney.
